Inpatient at Home
Hospital-level care delivered safely in the comfort of your home.
Our Inpatient at Home program brings quality, hospital-level care to your doorstep, allowing you to recover in an ideal environment.
Like the name implies, our program is designed for patients who might otherwise need hospitalization. Patients receive provider directed and coordinated care, which includes 24/7 remote monitoring and provider access, regular provider and nursing visits, IV infusion services, along with imaging and laboratory services. While illness type and severity will dictate that some patients require hospitalization for access to critical care and procedural services, of those patients who can safely be cared for at home, studies have shown patients are more likely to recover, tend to recover faster, experience fewer complications, and generally have better outcomes when treated at home versus the hospital.
- Hospital-level care, seamlessly connected with higher-level care
- 24/7 provider on-call, 24/7 remote patient monitoring and telehealth oversight
- In-home provider visits and access to specialist services
- Laboratory testing, imaging, and infusion therapy at home
- Better provider continuity and consistency resulting in a more personal connection
Answering Your Questions About Inpatient at Home
How is Inpatient at Home different from Hospital at Home?
The Hospital at home (HaH) concept first got traction in the U.S. in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic with the CMS Acute Hospital Care at Home (AHCAH) initiative. In response to bed shortages during the pandemic, this initiative allowed hospitals to bill for services delivered to home patients as if they were in the hospital. Consistent with this reimbursement model, service guidelines mimicked or mirrored typical hospital services. Additionally, to mitigate risk to hospital and patient, the list of reimbursement-eligible conditions was somewhat limited. Interestingly, as patients were enrolled in HaH programs, it gradually became evident that the patients were not only doing as well as if they were in the hospital, but they were actually doing better at home.
The Inpatient at Home (IaH) model is the natural evolution of HaH. Building on the foundation of improved or equal outcomes with HaH, IaH provides similar services to HaH with a different reimbursement structure. Inpatient at Home is provider driven, not hospital driven. The healthcare provider team determines exactly what services an individual patient needs and arranges for the provision of those exact services. Provider and ancillary services are billed to the payor separately and individually. As a rule, for equivalent services, costs for IaH are significantly lower than HaH. Additionally, as long as the provider team is comfortable caring for the patient at home, there are no restrictions on eligibility.
